META e.V.
International Artist Exchange
META e.V. is an independent initiative of six visual artists, who intend to get into contact with artists from other countries.
We refer to the Italian meaning of the word metà, half. Two halves / two groups of artists from different countries come together with the objective of building up a new wholeness through the joint artistic encounter. The opportunity to get into contact with artists from other cultural contexts, to get to know their backgrounds and their living and working conditions, is at the same time a challenge and a chance, for reflecting and defining one’s own position.
The meetings takes place in the form of two jointly planned and realized exhibitions:
META e.V. provides an exhibition space in Berlin, takes over the organization of the exhibition (invitation cards, press work, possibly arrangement of transportation funds) and the inclusion of the guest artists (accommodation, breakfast, possibly work opportunities in their studios).
Later, in return, the invited group takes over the role of the host. They invite the artists of META e.V. and organize a new joint exhibition in their place.
Each artist takes part in the exhibitions with his own particular work. Through working out a joint exhibition concept, the different artistic positions face each other. This requires an intensive discussion, openness and transparency.
In recent years there have been exchanges with artists from Paris, Malmö, Budapest and Vilnius.
